MIX MASTER MIKE AND QUINCY JONES III CROWN THE ULTIMATE DJ

LOS ANGELES, CA — Scratch The Ultimate DJ (Numark®) recently announced LA’s DJ Hymn as winner of their wildly popular contest, Who’s the Ultimate DJ? The contest was announced in November 2009 and called upon DJs nationwide to film and submit videos of themselves scratching to one of the featured tracks in the Scratch video game. Additionally, DJs were also invited to film their submissions at The Scratch DJ Academy in front of an intimate audience of top Numark executives and noted professionals such as DJ Nu-Mark and DJ Babu (Beat Junkies).

However, in the end it would be the judges: World renowned accomplished music producers Mix Master Mike and Quincy Jones III who would narrow hundreds of entries down to three finalists, eventually choosing DJ Hymn (who was filmed scratching on the track “Slacker” by Tech N9ne)as The Ultimate DJ. Prizes include top of the line Akai and Numark equipment. DJ Hymn will also have his video featured on Scratch’s website and social network pages (Youtube, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook), as well as AllHipHop.com.

“This is a dream come true on so many different levels,” says Hymn. “Not only am I humbled to be chosen as winner by two people I greatly admire, I was given the opportunity to compete amongst my peers -in my element. There’s so much talent out there and I got to be a part of it…up close and personal.”

DJ HYMN

DJ Hymn’s innovative style won him the title as the Venice Beach DJ early on. He’s a true artist who has appeared on MTV, NPR, and Music Plus TV as well as hit shows American Idol and Step It Up. In addition to his appearances on television and radio, DJ Hymn has also produced tracks and remixes for George Clinton, Bizzy Bone of Bone Thugs ‘n’ Harmony (due out April 20th 2010) and T Rey for a track featured on the movie “Hancock” starring Will Smith. Hymn has also been hired to collaborate and have his music featured on commercials for Puma and Ford Motors and has most recently been awarded winning title in the nationwide Scratch Who’s the Ultimate DJ? Contest (Numark®) by world renowned accomplished music producers, Mix Master Mike and Quincy Jones III.

DJ Hymn attributes his success to his strong musical foundation. He emerges from the East Coast as a shining symbol of the late 70′s and early 80′s great urban break-beat era, with eclectic influences ranging from Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Run DMC, Bob Marley, Krs-One, Magic Mike, Busta Rhymes, James Brown and the Motown sound to Bassbin Twins, DubTribe, DJ Dan, Doc Martin, Chemical Brothers, Hardkiss, Keoki, and Uberzone.

A superior guitar player and lover of musical instruments, he was able to pick up and master the turn tables quickly with a fresh approach and profound understanding; taking the art of mixology to another level and spinning it towards another direction.
